Kahlua’s Ordeal
©RichardBarnabé2018
Freezing rain fell all evening
Honey returning from a late meeting
I was careless with the front door latch
For Kahlua’s speed I was no match
Honey tried to avoid her
Kahlua did not see the danger
Slammed into the skidding truck
Could not believe such bad luck
A dog so gentle yet full of vigor
We named her for a sweet liqueur
For us she is the star of the show
To lose her would be such a blow
Doc was a real star vet
No emergency he had not met
A delicate surgery
Then a full recovery
Now she’s back roaming in our yard
Into corners running so hard
Fetching a stick up off the ground
Frolicking back, a real canine clown
A dog so gentle yet full of vigor
We named her for a sweet liqueur
For us she is the star of the show
We’re so glad it will remain so
We’re so glad it will remain so.
