The Big Crunch
©RichardBarnabé2012, revised 2018
Threatened by income polarization
The middle class fears obliteration
Politicians respond with bromides
Any ploy to lure voters to their side
Agents of the financial markets
Concentrate upon lining their pockets
Union leaders fret about their powers
Does anyone care about real workers
We can all feel the crunch
We know there’s no free lunch
Can’t escape the hard facts
High time to clean up our act
Corporations love globalization
Convenient escape from regulations
Few needs for social considerations
Transfer pricing to deal with taxation
Unless they need you working right next door
You may find your job being shipped offshore
Shrinking benefits for the working mass
For CEO’s, everything first class
We can all feel the crunch
We know there’s no free lunch
Can’t escape the hard facts
High time to clean up our act
We all incurred far too much debt
Perhaps gave prosperity the kiss of death
We never applied Keynes on the upside
For rainy days didn’t put enough aside
Trade balances are seen as off kilter
Some countries want to close their borders
We can’t remain paralysed by fear
Let’s blaze a trail to get us in the clear
Yes we can beat the crunch
Throw a real counter punch
Let’s agree to a pact
That we shall clean up our act
Let’s aim for better wealth distribution
But we must embrace with strong conviction
Productivity and innovation
As key components of the solution
Productivity and innovation
